One Direction member Niall Horan may have just caused millions of hearts to skip a beat around the world. Per The Sun, the Irish native international heartthrob recently broached the subject of a 1D reunion when he spoke to Sunday People at a red carpet in Los Angeles earlier this week. He said, “We will be back. We would be silly not to … ridiculous.”
How fantastic would that be? We probably shouldn’t hold our breath, though, because Niall himself is getting ready to launch his solo career. He recently performed his sweet acoustic ballad “This Town” live on TV for the first time at the American Music Awards last weekend. He also chatted with E News on the AMA red carpet and confirmed he’s “in the middle of recording” his first solo album which is “still kind of in the writing, recording process.”
Niall isn’t the only One Direction member chasing solo creative pursuits. Harry Styles filmed his first movie “Dunkirk” which is due out next summer. His highly-anticipated solo album is speculated to drop next near as well. Buzz has been building for the record since it was reported Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid is at least one of Harry’s collaborators.
Plus, Harry did a solo spread in the UK magazine Another Man in which he was interviewed by iconic Beatles front man Paul McCartney, who knows exactly what it’s like to transition from being in a frenzy-inducing band to launching a solo career. Harry even asked Paul how he approached his own solo breakout in the piece. Can you even imagine getting advice from one of the biggest musicians in the world? It’s rather mind-blowing Harry and his One Direction pals arguably achieved the same kind of meteoric rise to fame.
Meanwhile, Liam Payne inked a deal with Capitol Records and Louis Tomlinson launched his own record label last year. So, the One Direction boys are currently keeping busy heading in four directions. Niall Horan added, “At the moment we are all doing our own thing. Harry wanted to do his movie and everyone is just chilling.”
Fans are undoubtedly chomping at the bit to get their hands on any and all of the 1D boys’ solo records. Unlike One Direction’s fast track in releasing five albums in five years, the creative process could be slower for individual projects. First, these guys have to figure out who they are as solo artists and what kind of statement they want to make to the world. This means they’re going to write or work with co-writers, work out music arrangements and finally record.
Ultimately, 2017 could prove to be a very sweet year for Directioners who are hoping to hear some solo music from their 1D idols. All good things are worth the wait and Niall Horan has made a great start with “This Town.” The stripped-down black and white video has surpassed 20 million views on YouTube since it’s Sept. 29 release.
Still, in a Christmas wish list fantasy kind of way, we hope Niall’s hint of a One Direction reunion eventually comes true. Until then, we’re content to keep dreaming and wait for whatever the 1D boys want to bring us next.
